Kim Saga Grand Finale…… or is it?

From The Wonder Years
Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day, you’re in diapers; next day, and you’re gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the long haul.

Well, here we are kids, the final episode of the little mini drama I’ve been calling my Kim Saga.  For any of you new readers who might have accidentally stumbled onto my story blog while looking for your favorite recipe, kitten video or porn site, welcome!  My story blog is all about me, my own personal life documentary.  Inside these couple hundred accounts is one long one about how I first encountered my wife as a 14 year old, (link), all the way to this point here; getting married.

I’m Only Three – (in Cicada Cycles)

A Face only a Mother Could Love

A Face only a Mother Could Love

I live in California now, but I grew up on Prytania, in Hamilton, Ohio.  When you grow up in a place like Hamilton, you grow up with cicadas.  What?  You don’t know what a cicada is?  Oh, well then, allow me to educate you.  A cicada is an insect, a big stubby-looking flying insect with big orange eyes, (many are red), and a mouth that doesn’t bite.  It makes a huge constant racket over 100 decibels in its quest to attract mates and oh, it lives underground for 17 years.  Some of them live underground for 13 years but they all live on or near tree roots until it’s time to come up from the ground, only to mate.  When they do come up from their underground roots, they arrive in ‘broods’ of thousands, sometimes millions.  They don’t bite or eat, they only suck tree sap.  If they land on you, just flick it off – it’s stupid, it just thinks you’re a tree.
I swear I’m not making this up.

Lions eat Zebras – Our First Year at Miami University

Headed off to the Senior Prom '76

Headed off to the Senior Prom ’76

When last we were together, (you and I), Kim and I were standing atop the Kings Island Eiffel Tower, perhaps considering our futures.  We got through Senior Prom and graduation without a hitch to speak of, but what the hell was next?  When we graduated, I was working full time hours with Taco Bell and Kim I think had left Wendy’s, did a couple of weeks waitress’ing at Frisch’s and then landed a part time job at The Gap.  Over the summer we both worked.  We worked, we played and we wondered what the future had in store for us.  Continue reading

Where the Hell did my Car Go? – More High School Pranks

Little Red Pinto

Little Red Pinto

In stories like egg wars and What’s that Smell (read me), I’ve written about practical jokes and harmless pranking.  Hopefully your high school weekend and summer evenings in high school contained as much jocularity, frivolity (and carnal pleasures?) as mine did.  In high school, we can’t wait to be older and when we get old, we miss our younger years like crazy. I Almost Met the President – My First Day at College

I felt as smart as these guys

I felt as smart as these guys

Hello everyone!  This week I am a pinch hitter for Emily who, along with Kelly, co-host a weekly blog hop called Remember the Time.

I know what most of you are thinking right now – I’m too new, I’m not good enough to co-host RTT.  You’re the rich college kids who race every year in the Little 500 and you think we Cutters aren’t good enough (for those of you who don’t get the joke, go watch Breaking Away – you won’t be sorry).  Well all I can tell you is that if you don’t like my story here, just ask Emily & Kelly for a “refund”.  I hope you have a good time feeling superior while you are laughing at my idiocy as an 18 year old.  All my stories are true – this is the story of my very first day at college in 1976 at Miami University of Ohio.

Now that I’m in my 50’s, I have the wonderful benefit of being able to look back and to celebrate many accomplishments – in my career, home life and education.  This is how it’s supposed to work out in America – you work your ass off and hopefully reap some benefits.  Among the educational accomplishments are a few degrees and a couple of certifications.  Yes, I gratefully can look back on these educational accomplishments…..but you sure wouldn’t have predicted that I could even successfully find the college lunchroom had you been with me on my very first day of college at Miami University of Ohio.
